(no subject)
Well, I've made it back to Riverview. SOMEHOW all my stuff fit into the van. Not entirely sure how, but it did. :p
We went to see West Side Story at MacNaughton tonight. (Apparently every high school in town is doing their show THIS WEEKEND, so I can't see Nunsense at my old high school or The Fantastiks at MHS. This strikes me as a bad idea seeing as the theatre kids from the other schools are usually a fairly significant audience :p)
It was a really fantastic performance. I was particularly impressed with the NUMBER of guys and the talent level of said guys. They actually had enough males to play all the Jets and Sharks, and no one stood out as clearly ONLY having gotten a speaking role due to being male. "Gee, Officer Krupke" had some decidedly impressive acrobatics in it. :p
The girl who played Maria was absolutely FANTASTIC. She was SO adorable in the first act that I wasn't sure how she would pull off the second act. Turns out that I shouldn't have worried. :p She had this amazing talent for creating an emotional connection.
WHich brings us to my "I think I may be turning into a sap" point. :p I, uh, kinda almost cried during "Somewhere". I think it was just the utter earnestness of Tony and Maria while the entire cast was doing amazing harmonies behind them that just hit something. WOW though.
The only real noticeable flaw was that the microphone set up kinda hindered the choreography. Some of the solos really should have had people moving around more were handicapped by the actor having to stand in front of the microphone and only move to the next microphone on the music in between verses.
Still, that doesn't change the fact that it was an AMAZING show.
