Wrapup

Dec 23, 2008 12:54

So my xmas gift to myself was a month of WoW.  Yeah, i know, you can't eat only one and you can't only play WoW for a month.

But damn, i'm having fun :)  I'm taking today to do laundry, and then i'm busy all day the 25th, the 26th through 29th i'm visiting Bro in DC, and on the 4th i leave to visit Parents for 2 weeks.  So it's not ilke i'll be this addicted for long.  But i'm enjoying it while it lasts :)

For now, a meme about 2008, stolen from emprint :

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?

Move to New York (Schenectady, for any of you needing updates).

Quit a job with no new job lined up.

Was unemployed and loved it.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Not my thing.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

There have been births, but no really close friends or relatives.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Not very close. My grandmother passed about 5 years ago, and the family has been lucky since.

5. What countries did you visit?

Canada.....?

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

Like emprint , a proper home is a good plan :) I hope to be able to buy again next fall when i'm employed again.

O, yeah, and a job :D

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I got nothin'.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting into grad school? Selling my house? Quitting my job before my burnout was completely cripping? Moving?  Maintaining relationship with wonderful but very different from me sweetie? Having better relationship with parents and family? Visiting said family for 2 weeks straight in August? Helping aforementioned sweetie take care of seriously ill but estranged father?

Been kind of a busy year.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Allowing the burnout and possible depression to get as bad as it did, and affect my work.
Never accept apologies from Nemesis or Shouty, former coworkers of mine who caused me serious mental anguish over the past 2 years.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

My annual summer flu, nothing major.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

The gas money to get me home for that glorious 2 weeks in Michigan.

12. What was the best thing someone gave you?

Places to stay and food during those glorious 2 weeks in Michigan.

13. Were you lucky in love or lucky in cards?

Love.  Cards would mean 3 Dragon Ante, or by the loosest definition, RPGs, and i'm just not emotionally invested enough to care if my luck is bad there :)

14. Where did most of your money go?

Mortgage, then school tuition.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Michigan trip!

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?

Nas' Black President

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Happier.
Older or wiser? Wiser.
Thinner or fatter? Marginally thinner.
Richer or poorer? Complicated! I have TONS more cash, no house, rent and tuition to pay, and no job.  Tough to say, really ;)

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Working out.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Stressing.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

Xmas day = scholar's "adopted" family (his deceased mom's best friend took him in after she passed.  He considers her kids his siblings and calls her his second mom.  I use the term Aunt sometimes, or "close family friend".)  26-29 Dec i am in DC with Bro, SIL, Dad, StepMom, and The World's Cutest 2 Year Old Nephew.  31 Dec is the marathon almost all night gaming session, and then 4 Jan we fly to visit Mom and StepDad.

21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?

D&D with scholar's regular group.  Last year there were 12 people around the table!

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?

I might have been most of the way there at the end of 2007, but the process is still ongoing of course.

23. Did you fall out of love in 2008?

Not with any human being, that i know of!

24. What was your favorite TV program?

I dropped my DVR last October, so i have no idea what's on TV any more.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No, and the only two people who caused me so much stress i lost sleep are out of my life and 200 miles away.

26. What was the best book you read?

I LOVED The Stolen Child.  I wanted MORE MORE MORE.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

scholar is helping me discover and enjoy rap and hiphop.  Nas, Fort Minor, Akon (older > newer), KRS One, MC Chris, yt cracker....i have discovered many people this year and cannot rank order them.

28. What did you want and get?

A new life?

29. What did you want and not get?

CONvergence. Selling my house early enough that new life was smoothly introduced and not rushed.  Proper goodbyes with former coworkers and friends before moving.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

I have to go with WALL-E. It wasn't perfect, but as far as sheer enjoyment and beauty, it just rocked my world.  All the other frontrunners (QoS, Dark Knight, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, etc) were good, but their total YAY value was not as great as WALL-E.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Nothing.  Okay, i went to work, came home, phone call with SO, and bed. It was in the middle of the "scholarPapi is deathly ill and may not live" saga.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Better ability to handle stress.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?

"I work and must look medium professional but i hate it and soon i'll be able to dress like i want again".
Of course, teachers have to look business casual whereas chemists can be hobo casual if they want, but we had to dress safely.  There is freedom in business casual that is allowed to incorporate skirts and non-acid-resistant fabrics ;)

34. What kept you sane?

Knowing that my life was going to change as soon as all the pieces fell into place.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Ummmmmmmmmmmm.  Do the people who run the ENnies count as public figures? I'd have to go with Dextra if so.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

I just don't do politics.

37. Who did you miss?

shalssa, who used to work with me, but quit to find herself.  We still had lunch about once a week, but i miss her everyday snark and sarcasm :D And of course now i'm in NY and she's in Seattle :(

38. Who was the best new person you met?

I met them at xmas in 2007, but i'd say scholar's brother MarkIV and his wife.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:

Living alone sucks.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

I am completely blanking :(
And there is a year's worth of experiences in 40 questions ;)
