Weekend update

May 12, 2008 17:40

Cue cheesy SNL music now.

Friday:  Got to work pretty early, for a change.  Had a busy day, for a change, and was out the door by 2.30.  It was only a 6 hour day but i didn't take a lunch break, and i really did hit the ground running and really get a lot done.

Well, except i left my access card, and wallet at home.  The card wasn't a big deal, but the wallet was something of a deal breaker.  So i ran home before getting on the road.

The drive to Albany was one of my fastest, despite a lot of rain.  It took me exactly 3 hours, which is quite good especially since i stopped for gas - i wasn't quite out but i hit the last rest stop in MA since gas is easily 20 cents a gallon higher in NY.  Given that it is the ONLY thing that is more expensive in the Capitol District than in Boston, i'm not complaining much.  But i _am_ planning my fillups to take advantage of that price difference.

I went straight to the hospital, saw scholarHermano* for about 10 minutes, then visited scholarPapi for about an hour - he is alert and apparently back to his normal self.  Which means, scholar is getting increasingly upset with they way Papi is treating him.  Wasn't too bad on Friday specifically since Hermano was there,  but more on that later in the update.

Then we had dinner at a cheesy Mexican restaurant with guedo79 and evilkittygirl.  The food was decent, the Dos Equis Dark was drinkable, and the company was cool.  We then played Soul Caliber** at guedo and EKG's house and headed home.

Saturday morning we were up nice and early so see scholar's nephew play soccer, then visited one of Papi's neighbours, then visited Papi himself.  It was pretty chill except when i went to the restroom words were exchanged between scholar and his dad. Not sure exactly what, but we left right after that and there was a lot of stress to burn off.  Fortunately, we were going straight to lunch with orchid blossom and AO the Overkitty, so he didn't have time to simmer.

After lunch we showered and went to Genki-san's apartment to set up the air mattress before taking him out for a night on the town for his birthday.  For scholar's birthday we needed a ride back to Schenectady from downtown Albany, and we wanted to avoid that.  Genki-san lives right at the bottom of the hill (think where Madison ends at the river) so he let us crash there.

We took Genki-san out to dinner, along with a friend of his, orchid, AO, Claimh, Lusanna, and another non-posting friend.  It was overpriced Italian, and i was underwhelmed.  We also had a very loud and hopefully not too pretentious or annoying discussion of free will, national/racial identity, and a classic, religion versus science.  Man, we have the most annoying (to outsiders) conversations when we drink.

Then was the crawl up the hill to Lark street for the free Bomber's margarita, more conversation, a visit to Tess's - knowing the owner gets you in for free, even during Tulip Festival! - random conversations with random drunk Canadians, then Lionheart, then some pizza joint, then back to Genki-san's.  I was drunk but not DRUNK.  Just pleasantly tipsy.  Genki-san on the other hand.....

Sunday we watched Justice League DVD's until about 1 pm, while Genki-san stayed in his PJs and was hung over the entire time.  scholar and i were tired but not remotely hung over.  This is why i was glad my birthday was on a Tuesday and i could not get the Bomber's margarita.  O darn.  No horrible hangover for me ;)

Then we walked up to Tulip fest, had some fair food, saw the art booths, spent an hour at a Barnes and Noble, and then spent an hour or two at Central Park in Schenectady reading before the sun went down.  I called my mom and barely prevented myself from being disowned for yet another year ;)

We bought some groceries, went back to the house and had dinner, spent a few hours packing scholar's clothes for his summer with me (YAY) and had some cider on the porch before bed.  It was actually really rough doing the packing - he's very sensitive about how messy his room is, and we once again almost had a fight.  We still haven't had a real fight, so it's difficult to tell how that will go when it happens.  This one was diffused pretty quickly once he saw he'd hurt my feelings, same as the last one, so we're learning and when the real fighting happens we'll figure it out one way or another.

*henceforth shortened to Hermano, so you all know it's scholar's brother.  My brother is shortened to Bro.  scholar's Papi will be Papi from now on - he calls him Dad, but i call my dad Dad in here, so this is just how i'll distinguish them, since it fits in the theme with Hermano/Bro.

**Crap.  scholar gave me back my copy of Soul Caliber III.  Crap crap crap.  Okay, i am allowed to play for no more than an hour each night, and only AFTER i do chores.  The only exception is tonight, since i already allowed myself to take tonight as a goof off night.

And then this morning i drove straight from there into work, again making it in 3 exactly.  I got into work about an hour later than normal, but i left a bit later than usual too so it wasn't a total wash.  And now i'm home, contemplating dinner, brown hair dye, chores, Soul Caliber III, and the Harpoon Summer Ale in the fridge :)

ETA:  And THIS is what happens when you add too much Infrared to Cobra.  In case you were curious.
