Paradoxically, it's a Monday, and it was an entirely nice day. I had the day off from work, because originally I was scheduled wall-to-wall for the weekend. Then all my Sunday plans fell through, and it was a low-key day, so today meant I got to be productive, rather than a limp sponge.
Highlights of the day: sleeping in, chuckling at a cat sleeping square on the guest bed pillow, running some errands I had meant to do for months now and never got around to it; doing some sorting and cleaning, getting in a good workout, and glancing at my work email on the Blackberry, then chuckling and walking away.
Yes, I know that last bit will catch up with me tomorrow. Especially since I have a meeting request for an 8:30 AM meeting.
Only real bummer today: last night I tried a new recipe in the crock pot for white beans and sausage. It overcooked (because at the required 3 hour mark, the beans were still crunchy) overnight, to where the beans exploded, and it became "bean paste flavored with herbs, and sausage". I'm planning to jettison the whole batch shortly. I'm just chalking it up to experience.
Tonight's culinary adventure is trying "grill steaks" from the Mexican grocery store up the street. They're incredibly thin cuts of meat (like as thin as a ham steak) that I've had marinating in lime juice, oil, garlic, salt, and pepper since last night. Was going to pick up some "Mexican-style sour cream" at the store, but it looks to be sour cream with a bunch of artificial thickeners, so I went with standard US version instead, which is just cultured cream. Somehow I doubt "authentic" Mexican food requires locust bean gum and carigeenan. I did, however, invest in a can of organic "refried" black beans that come with no lard.
Bonus evening points for having a purring, sleepy cat on my lap.
