So, yesterday Lowell called into work. He hadn't been feeling well all weekend, Quintin had a doctors appointment and it was his 25th birthday so he decided it was worth it. I feel bad because the only special thing we did was go to Olive Garden for dinner and then to this really neat little ice cream shop. He did buy himself a video game he wanted so I guess that was cool. It wasn't wonderful but at least he didn't go to work..
Quintin has been walking a lot lately, it makes me nervous because half of the time he picks up his blanket puts it up to his mouth and starts walking. To our amazement he still keeps his balance with his blanket dangling under foot. At least one of his molars has started poking through. We can never get him to stay still and open his mouth for us to look in so we had no idea, but Dr.Rooney pissed him off so much that he was screaming with his mouth wide open and we finally saw it. No wonder he has been so moody, lol.
I decided to make Quintins costume for the Ren Fest this year, I couldn't find anything on the net that I liked. Lowell and I went out and found a good pattern and bought the material and were looking for one of those cheap hand sewing machines and couldn't find one at the couple of places we looked so we headed home to see where to look next. After we put Quin down for his nap we discovered that our neighbor Tamara had one she was going to get rid of so he gave it to us and lent me a few extra tools I would need, now I needed to practice a bit. We cut some extra material for me to use and it worked fine for a little then it kept skipping stitches. I was very disappointed, I had been so excited to do this and the tool I was to use didn't work well enough. I can not let things drop when I get them in my head to do them so we bought a sewing machine. It was the least expensive one we could find and it actually had a ton of great reviews saying that it is an excellent beginners machine, which I am. So at this point I read the instructions and got it set up with pedal and all and then had to practice. It's like driving a new car and having to get used to how much force you need to use on the pedals to get the desired speed, it was so cool. I did well making a small pouch for Lowell so I got started putting together the costume, which we pre-measured the night before, and found that after I ended a seam and tried to start another the needle would be threaded but then unthread before making a stitch. New problem. I checked several things (was the tension to high? was the thread breaking?) and it kept doing it. Then I realized that the thread take up lever was pulling the thread out of the needle because the position it stopped at was so low that when I turned it back on and it went back up the thread was not long enough to stay threaded. Easy fix, now that I knew what I was doing wrong. Sewing is actually quite fun. I have a bunch of other projects I want to try after I put the finishing touches on Quins costume and I'd like to look for some cool patterns, who knew I would actually like sewing?
The Ren Fest is going to be so fun, I am so excited. We'll be getting dressed up and hanging out with a bunch of friends and family and eating soup in a bread bowl and just having a great time, how much more fun can you have?! And when we come back we'll have my sister with us for a week, it'll be fun and nice to have her around for a while, being that she lives so far away and we never get to spend much time together.
I'm getting bored typing so, lots of Love everyone!!
