Sometimes, I prefer an author's first book or first couple of books to anything they write later.  There is something fresh, raw, and rough in first book that grabs me.  The first book can be like a piece of early pottery, it may be a little rough but there is a charm, a je ne sais quoi, that it lost as the writer settles into their style.

Am reading Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines and loving it.  :D  If you love to read and have an active imagination, this is an excellent book ( Read more... )

Whaling is still done these days.  So, what are whales used for?  The oil that was rendered from their bodies was replaced with petroleum (so oil saved the whale!) but is there any real need to hunt whales?

I'm going to buckle down and by an e-reader this weekend. My mom gave me some birthday money and told me to buy something I want. At some point, I plan to listen to Democracy in America.  From what I can tell, its from an outsider's point of view (a Frenchman) from the 19th century.  I want to see how much things have/have not changed.  :)

I think I was disturbing my dad slightly while I was at the bookstore.  I was cackling over a book titled Book of Poisons: A Guide for Writers.  And I was telling him about what I knew about some types of poisonings and possible cures.  It was quite funny.  I impulse purchased the book, and why not?  I had a gift card and a 40% off coupon.
