Letter to fanfic readers

Feb 12, 2006 20:43

Dear Readers,

Thank you *so much* for not reviewing. It's not like I haven't asked for your comments. It's not like I want to know what I may be doing right or wrong in my writing. It's not like I don't need a little encouragment. So, please, continue reading but not saying anything. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Ytak

I write for my enjoyment. But when I post it, I want to know if other people also like it. I want to know if I am wasting my time sharing it or not. The story I'm refering to, has had 2 different people review it, both in the first chapter. Only one of them has reviewed a few other chapters. The most recent chapter has been up a number of days and has no comments. How am I supposed to know if I'm becoming a better writer or a worse one if people won't tell me what I'm doing right or wrong?

I know people have been reading it. I have a paid account and can see individual hits for each chapter. Maybe that's part of my frustration. I know people are reading it.

Try changing your summary to pull in more readers. That's what I do when I feel the review count is too low. Heh. I did that earlier today. I decided that the summary was a little misleading. Now its better ( ... )

Well yeah. That could explain it too. But yeah- it's like asking for something from a group of people who aren't used to giving. You'll just have to accept the fact that alot of people don't give reviews.

I am still trying to get a stupid paid account but their server that allows you to do that is still down. It's like they don't want paid account users anymore.

I know that. Using the stats I get and depending on the genre, I should get roughly one review every 40 hits, though, sometimes its 80 hits. Then sometimes, I get reviews up the wazoo. It depends on the factors. For funny stories, I know to expect more (people comment more on funny stories). Dramatic stories elicit more thoughout reviews, though fewer. (is it obvious I've spent time pondering this phenomenom?)

It's down? That might explain why my account hasn't expired. I couldn't figure out why and so I just decided to accept it. I'm not complaining. Having it 8 months past its expiration is nice.

Oh no. That was for people who have been reading my latest fanfic. They are the stingiest group of readers when it comes to reviewing, I have ever met.
