Detective Conan thoughts

Currently, I'm playing catchup with the Detective Conan manga.  I lost interest a while back (a bit before the London case) and only got re-interested went a case centering around Detective Takagi came up (what can I say except I have a bit soft spot for him).  BTW, SatoXTakagi moments!  SQUEE!

Observation:
Poison is a very common method of murder.  But it leads me to ask, how much is needed to kill someone?  Because a lot of the DC poisonings 1) seem to happen with only a little bit and 2) happen immediately.  Now, I happen to own Book of Poisons: A Guide for Writers.  And from what I've learned on my own, people don't often die from just a taste (except under extremely poisonous stuff) and the deaths are usually protracted.  So, I decided to do a little research.

According to my book, arsenic requires 5-50 mg/kg (between 7 drops and a teaspoon) to be lethal when orally ingested.  And the fastest reaction time is 30 minutes.  And it is extremely toxic.

Regarding Cyanide: copied from Wikipedia, "The lethal dose for potassium cyanide is 200-300 mg.[6] The toxicity of potassium cyanide when ingested depends on the acidity of the stomach, because it must react with an acid to become hydrogen cyanide, the deadly form of cyanide. Grigori Rasputin survived a potassium cyanide poisoning because his stomach acidity was unusually low.[7]"  and "KCN can be detoxified most efficiently with hydrogen peroxide."  But my book says that a lethal dose (for a 150 lb human) can be as little as a taste, also, death can happen as soon as minute after ingestion to 15 minutes.  Even more toxic than arsenic.

So, DC isn't too far off.  However, I really do feel that there should be more near fatal poisonings.  Too many are successful and I've  watched too many forensic shows that demonstrate that a lot of poisonings are done over a long period of time and a lot of people will become really sick (probably wishing they were dead).

Along the note of poisonous things, I don't ever want to eat wild mushrooms.  With a lot of them, if you survive eating them, you may need a liver or kidney transplant because that's what a lot of the toxins in mushrooms attack.

Other observations:

Sera makes me think of Kaitou Kid.  I really don't think Sera is Kid but facially speaking they are similar, more so than the average Aoyama character
.
Takagi is getting more and more sucked into Conan and the Detective Boys schemes.  It may be because he is willing to go along with Conan or this may be a continuation of what he saw Conan was capable during the Tokyo Tower case.  Personally, I'm hoping its the latter because more Takagi is good in my book.  lol
