Herb - Beefsteak plant (perilla)

Sep 13, 2010 21:29

I used some of the dried leaves from the beefsteak plant a friend's mom gave me in rice balls (with rice vinegar).  Om nom nom nom.  They were delicious.  The rice vinegar didn't taste as good with the tuna rice balls.  Might pick up a bottle of sushi vinegar to try, too.  Will definitely be using the beefsteak in the future.

And tomorrow, I'll finally plant the ones I didn't dry.  They've been in a vase for the past week or so.  I have to say, they are a very hardly plant.  They had been pulled up by the roots (I was informed that I was not depriving them) and didn't go into water until 4-6 hours later.  And they lived.  No wet paper towels around the roots.  Just in a plastic sack in my backseat.
