Ah fandom, please don't stop with the batshit, as that's what makes you truly entertaining.
Hawaii Five-0 fandom is collectively getting it's knickers in a twist over Season 2, which has NOT even started airing yet. Those evil producers are doing all sorts of terrible things like introducing new characters, who are god-forbid female and therefore will take away from the bromance. Apparently, it is already jumping the shark and people are refusing to watch it as these changes are ruining it.
WTF-We haven't even seen the new episodes yet
One bright spark is already recruiting on LJ to a campaign to let the producers know how they feel about the new character as soon as they can (*translation - how she is ruining the show). So much hate for a character we haven't even seen yet
Then there is an entire rant in the comments about the major guest star for the first few episodes and how he is taking over Danno's role and OMG it looks like they are ignoring Danno, and then we segue into we have had no Chin or Kono in the spoilers so we won't have them either.
So there is much wailing by various people and on various forums and boards about how the show is being ruined and how they are deliberately sabotaging the Slash by introducing all these new love interests, etc, etc
For Frak's sake - this show is the slashiest I have ever seen on primetime US TV. They call each other Babe and make love heart signs at each other and Steve's all gooey-eyed over Danno. Take that and play with it, because given how homophobic US TV is that's all you are going to get folks.
Personally, I don't mind the love interests, although I like Catherine so I am still routing for me and Steve to stay in their Friends-with-Benefits gig, as Catherine is so the bloke in that relationship. Steve is her totty in port, and I like that gender-reversal :)
I am happy to wait and see myself. I've been here, done this with shows before.
Bones never fails to leave me staring at the season finale going WTF how are they going to sort this out and so far managing to pleasantly surprise me when the new season starts. NCIS at the end of season 2 floored me and had me convinced Ziva would never work. Look at her now. I didn't even mind the infamous Alias reset.
Personally, I have no problem with more characters, especially new female ones as you can never have too many good female characters in a show, but they have to work in the context of the story.
I also have no problem with love interests if it is written well. Hell, I am extremely shallow and thinking to myself "love interests = shirtlessness and gratuitous totty". Think about the totty people - Steve in love = naked Steve!
The reality is that we have seen only snippets of what is going to happen in the spoilers and promos to date. We don't have a real idea about where they are going. There is often a lot of misdirection in promos. Look at the fuss over the season 1 finale and who was going to die, and then look at how that actually played out.
I am not saying it might not go all pear-shaped ala Heroes, but let's leave the fan-wankery and the character-hate until the episodes at least have aired.
Then we can have lots of fun with Shipper Wars and how my OTP is so much better than yours and the fact that the producers just don't understand what the real fans want.
You know the usual fandom batshittery that we all love so much......
