The Wholly Appropriately Inappropriate Mashup Challenge: Week 3

May 07, 2009 09:00

So. Week three.

The folder of songs is here: http://www.sendspace.com/folder/gc6d4s

I think it's up past 500 mashups, and I keep tossing more in, so feel free to download and listen and then pick some and demand stories.

Gimme Shelter (The Illuminoid Remix) - The Rolling Stones - for jinkie420

IX. 177 words

It was a call to arms each morning, struggling to remake the American psyche into one that recognized the importance of societal awareness, on issues both near and far. Andy tossed the pencil against the push pin board only to have it bounce and fall back against the desk. Working for The Mirror was small comfort to the knowledge that she was going to need to start looking for a different apartment space over the next few weeks. The old flat carried more memories than was comfortable for Andy, and she was going to take this opportunity to turn over a new leaf.

Even though Nate had chosen to leave and take all his possessions on his move to Boston, Andy already knew that wherever she moved to next, consideration for the closet space would actually be more important than the kitchen. Her first compromise on having the open kitchen concept had not worked in her favour -- there were not enough layers of protective plastic to seal against the lingering scent of late night grilled cheese sandwiches.

Four Minutes (Divide & Kreate Remix) - Madonna - for unfortunateggs, or the original song Four Minutes - Madonna

X. 252 words

The elevators at Elias-Clarke took exactly three minutes and forty-two seconds to go from the main lobby to the Runway executive offices if there were no other floor stops. A scalding hot Starbucks latte stayed that way for precisely four minutes and nine seconds; any time after that, you might as well have called it tepidly warm even if it caused a second degree burn upon contact.

Every morning, there was a virtual steeplechase event featuring the second assistant to Miranda Priestly cradling at least a tray of piping hot lattes (on top of the bags of samples) dashing through early morning Fifth Avenue traffic. The first few times, Andrea Sachs skated on the edge of the last few seconds even as she skittered on the waxed floors of Runway. As time progressed and Andrea learned more tricks in dealing with Miranda, she discovered that she could shave a few seconds off her time by using a simple turn of the elevator key to ignore all other floors and go directly to the Runway floor.

Even more important, she kept a standing order and insulated canister at the Starbucks, complete with a small stack of cups that she could snag in a whirlwind rush through the queue. With no risk of scalding herself while scrambling across the street, the rapid ride on the elevator provided just enough time to pour the latte into the cups meant for Miranda. By the time Miranda arrived at Runway, the faint hint of coffee had already faded away.<./lj-cut>
