Work planning today

We had a little bit of snow yesterday, but no more over night, A whole day and I don't have to go out, so it can snow if it wants today.
I need to get a lot of things sorted for my lessons this term. I have been trying to think of a new topic for the older kids (aged 8-10), I usually pick a topic that I can read little bits out of kids books to try and persuade them to read more, tie in some grammar worksheets and get them to write a story on the theme by the end of the term. I have 1 child who has been with me for the three years I have been doing these classes, so I can't repeat topics yet. So this morning I suddenly clicked that we could do a time travel/historical stories idea. I was sure I had a copy of Tom's Midnight Gardenby Philippa Pearce, and Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliffe, Must have been Daniel's and therefore left in England, I certainly can't find them here. I will have to see if there is anything in the ESOC library that might do. Any ideas of other children's books that are suitable to read would be welcome. The kids all have at least one parent who speaks English but mainly go to German speaking schools, so their command of English is usually not as good as children the same age in Britain.
