Missing You Haiku 12-28-23
in memory of Shirley Barrette

I hold a seashell
to my ear, listening for
sounds of your laughter

* * *

I always look for
your tall shadow on the walk,
but all is sunlight

* * *

the garden whispers,
forlorn, its grass unparted
by your sweet footsteps

* * *

the flowerbed is
pristine: none of its flowers
are picked for your hair

* * *

where your long strides once
scattered the birds, now they peck,
fearless on the ground

* * *

though the garden is
beautiful, the song left in
my heart is still sad
