Ads and Empties
Here is a thoughtful article about why not to have "empty" ad blocks on your blog or other website. The points are generally valid. On the Geek Universalis hub page, we usually have one "your ad here" box -- so people will know we're open for more advertising. We had it filled with a Valentine's Day ad from Amazon for a few days, though, for visual variety.
