Communities Magazine Seeks Art Director

Nov 03, 2008 19:54

I received this notice from Communities Magazine, with a note that it may be forwarded to any appropriate venue. I know some of my artist-friends are looking for work; maybe this will pan out for someone.

Position available: Communities Magazine Art Director
Please inquire by email to communities_jobs@ic.org

Overview
Communities magazine is a quarterly publication. This location-independent contract position is part-time in the sense that the production cycle has lighter and more active periods.

The Art Director:
Is responsible for the overall look of the magazine. This includes: refining the design and creating templates as needed; laying out each issue; soliciting and selecting all photos and illustrations along with captions and credit information; working with the text supplied by the Editor; and working with ads (both in-house and paid) generated by the Business Manager.
Should have the ability to interpret ideas visually that the writers, Editor, or advertisers may want to communicate as well as to hold the aesthetic visual standard for Communities magazine, in collaboration with the Editor, as established by the Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC) board.
Should have the ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize.
Will prepare the files for printing and send digital copy to the printer in accordance with specs established by the printer.
Is expected to be available from the beginning of the layout phase until prepress issues are resolved and the proofs are approved.
Needs to have the hardware and software (preferably a Mac and Adobe CS Suite) necessary to perform the tasks required as well as layout and photo manipulation experience and skills to produce a visually high-quality magazine.
Needs to be a self-starter who can work in collaboration with the Editor, Business Manager, Liaison to the FIC Board, and Editorial Review Board.
