This is the linkback perk poem from the May 5, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl, originally hosted by DW user Dialecticdreamer.  It came out of the June 2014 Creative Jam, inspired by DW user Thebonesofferalletters.  It also fills the "Comings & Goings Freestyle" square in my 6-10-14 card for the Fanbingo fest.  All 14 verses have been posted.   Linkers ( Read more... )

Looking forward to more. Don't mess with these folk!

Reminds me of a bit in RAH's Job. Our Protagonist, in Heaven, is talking with a fellow he knew in life, a chef who was set on by crooks. WTTEO:

He laughed. “Crazy fools! Try ’n’ jump a cook in his own kitchen!”

Knives, hatchets, skewers, ..., all as sharp as can be, and he knows exactly where they are and how to use them.

Yay! Of course, the dragons have the advantages of size and firepower, but each of the Six Races has its own assets.

Now I'm thinking of that scene in Beauty and the Beast where the invaders reached the kitchen and all the knives jumped out of the drawers and the stove fired up. :D

Heaven have mercy on any such fools.
And the smart cook can hide the evidence by serving "long pig" for a meal or two...

Definitely a world where you're best off minding your manners.

They may be outmatched by the dragons, but they sure can hold their own against each other. It's why they existed in a reasonably stable balance with different alliances, before the Conflagration, rather than one or two dominating the rest.
