Poem: "Saving the Maidens"

Mar 07, 2014 00:26

This poem is from the March 4, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from rix_scaedu, aldersprig, and Dreamwidth user Rosieknight.  It also fills the "role reversal" square on my 1-2-14 card for the Trope Bingo fest.  This poem has been sponsored by laffingkat.

Considering what some men are like, the dragon can only be a better choice even if it does turn out to be hungry.

You need to explore this world!
This is unlike anything I remember ever reading in the past 30 years.

Often true.

>> You need to explore this world! <<

Folks can request more of whatever they want to see expanded.

Wow, that's awesome! I love exploring new territory.

I could easily see you taking this any of several different ways.
1) Feeding girls to dragons could be that society's way of getting rid of troublesome or inconvenient girls such as orphans, female heirs to fortunes or even young rich widows who refuse to remarry, girls who don't take orders well, etc.
2) You could also work this up as a world where magic is regarded as a privilege of men only and girls showing any signs of magical ability are gotten rid of.
I look forward to seeing how you deal with this.
