For all his ferocity when riled up, he is a real softie at heart. Some parts of his job description take him through a lot of horrible incidents.

As mentioned in the header above the poem, "Vigil Ante" is a direct sequel to "Not Mine." He's melting down after having walked in on an unpleasant incident of child abuse. This does not make for a restful night in Monster House.
