Poem: "Marchesa Micia"

Mar 07, 2012 14:42

This poem came out of the January 17, 2012 bonus fishbowl.  It was inspired by prompts from siliconshaman and marina_bonomi, and also touches on Italian renditions of "Puss in Boots."  It belongs to the series Fiorenza the Wisewoman; you can read more about that on the Serial Poetry page.

This poem is posted here as the linkback perk for the March 6, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl.   ( Read more... )

Yay, Micia! Uh oh, what has ailed the poor kitty?

As in the original "Puss in Boots," she ate an ogre. Some cats will eat the most vile things, and then get sick.

Nomnomnom!

Though story-telling-wise, I would have cut to the Marchesa's point of view.

From a technical perspective, you may be right, in that most stories are best told from the view of the character most affected by them.

This is something that differs from one series to another. Frex, Monster House has several viewpoint characters. Sort Of Heroes has a few poems where the heroes aren't even onstage. But Fiorenza the Wisewoman tends to keep the focus pretty tightly on Fiorenza, and it's rare to step aside from that even within a poem where she shows up part of the time. Each series seems to evolve its own parameters.

Is it too much to hope that she's in labor with a litter of chatty kittens?
