Here is a thoughtful essay about the evolution of race in roleplaying games.  It's a good theory.  But you know what?  Some folks have always thought like that.  My first reaction to a mass of new data is to search for patterns.

My second is to break whatever patterns I find.

I write the same way.

Heh. One of my favorite character concepts was a gnoll bard who insisted on always wearing an impeccably white shirt. If I'd ever actually played the character, perhaps I'd have discovered whether his voice was pleasing to the ear (moderately) and why the shirt (apparently it was a silent but visible protest against inevitably being called "dirty").
