Poem: "Where the Action Is, and Was, and Ever More Shall Be"

This poem was inspired and sponsored by the_vulture.  It touches on fond memories of gritty low fantasy stories, and roleplaying games at low level.  (One of my best-ever campaigns had everyone at first level for almost the entire time.)  And just because you've changed life roles doesn't mean that you're out of the picture ( Read more... )

Heh! :D

Ya know, in any fantasy campaign I run, it's customary to include a tavern brawl in the first session. XD

I do that a lot, though not always in the first session. Tavern brawls are fun. *ponder* I recall one with a famous thief crawling around under tables during the fight, stealing everyone's underwear.

LOVE!

So much love!

Because EVERY campaign has a Dron.

The cadence of this is excellent. It cries out to be read at a game.

The poem has been sponsored, so it's available for public enjoyment. If people want to read it at a game, that's fine.

Yeah, barkeepers in my campaigns are not people who are safe to mess with. I mean, sheesh, they serve adventurers. Obviously they must have some means of protecting themselves.

My favourite is Rubb Grumm, the owner of the Inn at the Last Bridge in the Middle Earth RPG. He and his boys were quite handy when we holed up in that inn to fend off a raiding party of orcs.

This is great--I think every gamer can relate. Cheers to the Drons out there, and may we all find similar satisfaction in our own adventures! (Though I hope for excitement and challenges of a less physical nature myself.)

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

There are, indeed, many types of adventure not all of which are combat. Some of the other poems this month go into that.

>>At the end of the first week,
there was a brawl.
Two dwarves and four elves had it out.<<

TOTALLY. AWESOME.

(who would win that one????)

Dwarves are strong and tough, so in a point-blank fight, I suspect that two dwarves against four elves is about even, and could go either way. But it got broken up before there was a winning side.

I'm glad you liked the poem!
