This poem came out of the March 1, 2011 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from
my_partner_doug and
eseme. They wanted to introduce origami and gargoyles to the Monster House. To read previous poems in this series, visit the "

I think it's cool, too.

I love this series too - is the monsters, for me. And the upbeat urban fantasy vibe.

I had done origami as a child, but revisited it as a teen at a summer day camp. It was a mostly athletic camp (and I was not), but one of the activities was origami.
The man who taught us was blind. His work was always better than ours, and I was amazed.
That was... approaching to two decades ago. I had forgotten him, from that one summer. Thank you for this!

You never know which images are going to resonate with your readers, I'm sure. I also wanted to affirm your artistic vision - that I have seen someone blind feel the paper and the shapes the way you describe.
If I recall, he stored his supplies carefully, to know which side was colored and which was white, though sometimes he would ask if he thought his pile has been gone through by eager campers.

True. That's part of the fun, though, seeing what other people find particularly interesting or meaningful. Sometimes it gives me ideas for expansion.

This is really useful, thanks.

But I bet when it runs out of pigeons they will be happy for the scissors and the ability to make fish from paper.

Well, it hasn't. That doesn't necessarily mean it can't or won't. It might. I don't know for certain.

That's likely true ... although I don't think it's possible to "run out of" pigeons in town. You can deplete the numbers in the immediate area, but before long, more will move in. But I figure if falcons can make a living on them, gargoyles should be able to do the same.
