Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:
Not particularly. I'm more inclined to read while eating lunch or something like that.
What is your favorite drink while reading?
Most often I'm drinking tea, though it's rarely because I'm reading.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
It tends to horrify me, so I almost never do it.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmark. I also fold down a tiny corner of the page to mark points of interest.
Fiction, nonfiction, or both?
Both. I have favorite topics and genres, but really, if it has words on it then I will at least try to read it.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I prefer getting to some kind of stopping point -- chapter, section break, paragraph -- but can stop in the middle if necessary.
Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
No. That is what reviews are for.
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
Usually. (If you saw a gold coin in the middle of the floor, would you stop and pick it up immediately?) I only keep reading if I'm utterly hooked. Most of the time, finding a new word is more exciting than the plot. I read all the time. I only find a new word once in a great while. I have read my way through most of the English language long since, except for very obscure words, which I collect as treasures. There are at least two writers -- Alan Dean Foster and
haikujaguar -- whose books I read partly because I get an average of one new word per book out of them.
What is the last book you bought?
Shalador's Lady by Anne Bishop
Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
More than one, plus magazines and whatever else is lying around.
Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
Anytime, anywhere.
Do you prefer series books or stand alones?">Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
I like both, and I get annoyed if the story is the wrong size for the format.
Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Many. That's what recommended reading lists are for.
How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)
Mostly by genre, then author's name. Nonfiction has subtopic divisions too, so for instance all the foreign language dictionary and grammar books are filed together.
