I was pleased to see this example of better packaging:

My husband picked up a bag today. They are the NOISIEST BAGS EVER. The crinkling, it is insane.

Considering how my husband is, I suspect the noise is why he got them. :p

I saw that line of text on the last full-size bag of SunChips I bought here in Arkansas.

Visions of using a bag a weed-suppressing matting around a small new plant.

That should work; it would last long enough to help the plant, and then dissolve. Exposure and ecology tend to speed the breakdown of biodegradable materials, too, so the bag should do its trick nicely. I think you'd need to weigh it down with something, like a brick edging or maybe some mulch.

Hmm, that gets me thinking -- I bet those biodegradable corn-based packing peanuts would make a nifty addition to compost, to help keep it fluffy.
