So: there's a little person dancing around in the back of my head singing "IIIIII'M NOT AT WOOOOORK, IIIIII'M NOT AT WOOOOOOKR!!!" Yeah, my week-anna-half of time off has officially started. Sure hope everything goes swimmingly so I don't come back to a complete and utter fubar.
Em made it into Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix despite a slight delay; I picked her up despite construction doing it's best to send me off to San Diego rather than to the Sky Harbor exit. Her first impression: "IT'S HOT HERE." Yup, so it is... and Phoenix is hotter than Tucson, always. So we headed home and made it back with only a slight trauma, henceforth to be known as the Incident Of The Lying Gas-Tank 'Empty' Indicator and never to be spoken of again. After we got back and got settled in, Em gave me and Icka a set of GORGEOUS hand-made finger-puppets of (you guessed it) the DC/KK cast; I got the DC ones, she got the KK ones. We squee'd over them a huge amount and then, um, put them in several interesting groupings and positions. Photos are to be found
here. Don't kill me.
Yesterday was rather nice; we headed out around 11:30 to eat at the Casbah, a vegetarian teahouse/restaurant that Icka and Megs found a week or so ago. BEAUTIFUL place! Photos are
here-- I was really impressed. That was the first time I've ever tried saiten, the tofu meat-substitute; not being a vegetarian, this is an area I haven't explored as much as others. Man, it was tasty; mine was grilled and served with brown rice and also-grilled veggies, mostly squash (which I adore.) Mmmmmmm.... Afterwards we walked around the 4th Avenue area a bit, poking around various shops (including one which was, weirdly enough, beach-themed; it contained
this, which basically rocked my socks off) and more or less goofing off. Em got a bit too much sun, so we headed back around 4, stopped by Savers for a little impromptu thrift-shopping (I got some GREAT blue/white Japanese bowls!) and spent the evening watching eps of Code Geas and the first Detective Conan movie, The Time-Bombed Skyscraper.
Sadly, this morning Em was sick as a dog. She was coughing when she arrived and had been sick since Wednesday; think maybe her bug got a bit worse due to the new environment and a touch of dehydration-- she threw up several times this morning, is coughing, has a sore throat, is nauseous, running some fever-- all that stuff. Dehydration was my first thought, but she drank quite a bit yesterday; I think she's having trouble with the dryness but mostly I believe this is that damned bug moving in on the attack. Right now she's flat on her back on the futon in the living room, piled with blankets; she managed to keep down a few bites of bread, some half-and-half Gatoraid/water and a grape popsicle, so I'm not as worried as I was. Yes, she's running fever; no, she's not sweating, so.... bug. Nothing much to do but have her sleep and drink as much as possible and eat when she can; I'm going to fix some eggs later on, I figure that'll be easy on her throat. Not the vacation she was hoping for, poor thing, and me either; but so it goes. When she's feeling better we'll head upstate and camp a night or so, go to Sedona and swim, and visit the Grand Canyon; there's no rush. I'm glad she's here, I just wish she felt better.
So-- today's a laying-around day. I need those too and am doing much of it, as well as sewing some herbal sachets (pure lavender for Em, lavender-and-hops for Icka and Megs and whoever else wants them. Takers? They'll help you sleep) and petting Bob. Em just woke up (it's almost 5 p.m.) feeling a bit better, which is all good.
Hmm; think I'll take a nap now. Because I CAN. I'm not at work! IIIII'm not at woooork!
