First of all,
ZOMG I TOLD YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUMBLEDORE TOLD HIM TO DO IT!!!!! AND YAY FOR NEVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that my fangirlish instincts are aside, I would like to note that this woman had an impossible task: tie together a harrowlingly complex plot, develop teenage characters to the point where they are no longer flat emo childs, live up to the crazy amount of hype surrounding her stories, try to write with a movie in mind, please all the fankids at once, try to please the literary types and keep the whole thing about PG-13 and still a children's story.
Impossible.
That said, I did enjoy reading it. It was fun and I don't expect great literature from these books. However, as a fan of Terry Pratchett I think I do expect too many loose ends and philisophical points.
Soooo much exposition. She loooooooooooooooooves to explain her little complex bits that have been going on since the first one.
Too many damn couples. She's obsessive about pairing people off. Though Albus Severus made my day. I could have told you Neville was going to become the Herbology professor. That's in just about every Neville fanfic ever. I stopped reading fanfic in high school except for the occasional humor or smut fic. I tend not to ship. And so when things go the way of the fanfic in the cannon I am disappointed.
I know she favors the crazy long ending with multiple climaxes and more twists and turns than a mountain road, but it went on just a little too long for me. Everyone showing up at Hogwarts at the end seemd like a gimmick for the movie.
I cried at Dobby's death. It was cheap. Very much like Wash's in Serenity. She just needed someone sympathetic to kill off.
Sorry this is disjointed and bullet pointish. I finished last night at 4:30 and am trying to simple get out all my thoughts before I talk to people about it.
I am sad about what she did to Snape. She tried to make his motivation too damn simple. Pining, whiney lovestruck emo kid. He will never be the same to me. I am really happy that Harry got to see his story through his thoughts and it's fine that he had to die but most of his coolness is gone.
I probably have more but I can't think anymore right now. Call me and we'll go discuss or something.
