Yesterday I finished my last assignment for the semester. We had to draft a chambers application (an application requesting an order from the court relating to some matter in a law suit) and then present it to a "judge". The judge was a local lawyer. I left most of it until Wednesday night before it was due. I ended up staying up until 1:30am trying to finish it. Then I got up at 5:30am to finish it. I had to hand it in at 8:30am, then I had class until 11:50 and my presentation time was 12:30pm. I was super nervous about the presentation because I didn't do any preparation for that part (other than put on my suit). But it went pretty well. I was able to respond to the judge's questions without difficulty. She said that I did really well.

I have/had a couple of events planned for this week for my Women and the Law Association that I was kind of freaking out about. On Tuesday, we had an event for International Women's Day. It was a panel of three speakers discussing the topic of "Prostitution and Women's Equality." The day before the panel, the director of our on-campus sexual assault centre sent me an email informing me that they were withdrawing their support for the event because they didn't agree with the position of the panelists. That just seems silly to me. Even if you don't agree, it doesn't hurt to listen and engage in dialogue. The panel ended up being really good and about 80 people attended.

Tomorrow is the Sexual Assault Advocacy Workshop. This is the third year in a row that our group has run this event. Before Christmas, one group member who participated in the organization of last year's event said she would organize this year's event. But then she didn't do, so I had to take over. The hardest part was getting a litigator with experience in the area of sexual assault litigation (that's when you sue someone for sexually assault you). I ended up consulting a professor who suggested a lawyer from Vancouver who agreed to do it. Then we have the on-campus sexual assault centre doing a presentation, as well as a women who lead a march through a bunch of indigenous communities on Vancouver Island to raise awareness about sexual assault and violence against women. Hopefully it will go off without a hitch tomorrow.

I'm pretty excited about my interview on Monday and about seeing my family.
