Lacing fingers, to Sooyoung that is the best feeling in the world. It doesn't have to be intimate like a kiss or such but the feel of intertwining fingers with your lover indicates the love you have for one another. The sense that both of yours fit together perfectly, like a puzzle. No loose fingers, no missing pieces.
Or so to say, what if there is a missing piece? And this piece isn’t like the man’s fingers are too big to hold the woman’s hands, but the type to know that the man you love is holding and fits well enough to someone else’s hands. That to Sooyoung is the worst. The feeling that there is someone else that fits perfectly to your man’s hands, just like a puzzle.
As she watched from a corner Jaejoong and Jessica walking through the park hand in hand, Sooyoung could only let out an exasperated sigh. A small fog escaping every breath she took, Sooyoung wrapped her scarf tighter around her face and walked behind the couple thinking she is unable to be noticed with her disguise.
It's been a year or so that Jaejoong and Sooyoung called it quits. They both thought that they were over each other, or in other words they were forced to be over each other because of the non-ending complexities - namely friends and fans. Sooyoung still loves Jaejoong, there is no doubt. She denies it but if she doesn't love Jaejoong anymore then why is she following him and Jessica right now?
Jaejoong smiled at Jessica as she fed him with the ice cream he bought for her - chocolate mint flavoured to be exact. The reason for his smile wasn’t fully because Jessica was feeding him, well he tries to make it look like he does but no; it is because chocolate mint is Sooyoung's favorite. He remembered it crystal clear as to when he would feed Sooyoung, sometimes mess with her by shoving the ice cream on her nose and he'd kiss her nose to lick it off. But out of all the three years he had with Sooyoung, the best feeling was to hug her. Hugging her and feeling the warmth between their bodies comforts Jaejoong, he feels as if he’s protected and has nothing to worry about. But now, he hugs Jessica. He feels the sincerity in her, but it’s not the same nor will the feeling be the same as to when he hugs Sooyoung.
He turns his head to grab a piece of tissue to wipe his mouth but instead a tall framed silhouette by the ice-cream stall caught his attention. The said tall figure was buying an ice cream and as he predicted, chocolate mint. He can tell who that person is even from a distance, who else would wear his old blue striped scarf anyway? Jaejoong questioned himself on to she was fully wrapped, as if she didn’t want to be seen or noticed. He glanced at his current girlfriend but she seemed to care less since she was busy on her blackberry. With this opportunity, Jaejoong politely excused himself and walked towards the ice-cream stall.
“Another chocolate mint ice-cream please”, Jaejoong smiled at the ahjumma. He notices Sooyoung to jig a little on the spot where she was standing - basically beside him with their elbowsin contact. “What are you doing here?”, he nudged her.
“To buy ice cream”, she bluntly replied not even making any eye contact or anything. “What are you doing here?”, Sooyoung shot him the same question. Before Jaejoong could give her a reply, the ahjumma passed them two chocolate mint ice creams in a cone with sprinkles for Sooyoung and with chocolate chips for Jaejoong.
Trying to keep the conversation last long and casual, Jaejoong nodded his head towards Jessica’s direction. “Up for a date with her.”
“Oh”
“Why are you really here Choi Sooyoung?”, Jaejoong pulled her behind a tree at least 2 meters away from where Jessica is. “Following me?”
She unwrapped the scarf from her neck and settled it around Jaejoong’s. He was shocked and winced a bit with her cold hands touching his neck. “You wish Jaejoong.”
“You still love me don’t you?”
“No.”
“Lie to me again”
“What?”, Jaejoong earned a glare from Sooyoung. He chuckled as he slowly grabbed her hand, massaging the knuckles of it if necessary. He knew Sooyoung would slowly give in once she feels their fingers intertwined; Jaejoong knows it’s the best feeling for Sooyoung after all. “Lie to me again, because I’m still deeply in love you Soo.”
“You can’t. You have Jessica now, love her instead.”
He only shook his head by her reply. He could barely care anymore, he’s tired from hiding what he’s really feeling and that is to love Sooyoung again. “I can’t...even if I try.”
“What do you mean?”
“I like her but hell that’s nothing from what I still feel for you.” Jaejoong caressed her face. “Have you forgotten everything we’ve been through Soo?”
“How I wish I can forget.” Sooyoung muttered but loud enough for Jaejoong to hear. A hint of hesitation was sensed on Sooyoung’s reply, “Please, just leave me alone.”
Jaejoong was about reply when a familiar small voice was heard and calling for his name. “Jaejoong oppa! Where are you?” The two glanced at Jessica from a distance before looking at each other. “Go, she needs you.”
“B-but...” Jaejoong got cut off once Jessica’s voice yelling his name entered his ears again. He glanced at Sooyoung for the last time, “Just remember that I love you so much Soo, they're just words but they're what I hold on to.” With that, he let go of Sooyoung’s hands and left her standing there with unnoticed tears cascading down her cheeks.
“I’m still in love with you too oppa.”
