Okay. Before I forget again, Kuja's broken 1k on comments. Whiiiiich means it's time for a First Impressions meme. Uh. You're going to have to tell me who you play though, because I am very bad at keeping that sort of thing straight.

Uh. The short version is that it's complicated.

The long version... well. He is willing to more-or-less accept Zidane as a presence in his life, and is willing to be nice(ish) to him. But on the other hand it's hard to just forget everything that happened before, so he... sometimes has these moments were he slips back into backing the magnificent bastard he used to be. But he's making an effort! It's just that having his own life to live still is something of a New Thing to him.

So yes. Complicated.

Reverse! Because I feel like it.

It's at once complicated and very simple.

Simple is this: Kuja, in the end, did right by Zidane's friends. As far as Zidane is concerned, makes him part of the team. Once you are on Zidane's team, he will bust his ass for you, even if he doesn't particularly like you.

What's complicated for Zidane, aside from "Kuja is responsible for hurting Dagger" (he can forgive the "almost blew up existence" much more easily) is that he can't just fully dismiss Kuja. He's the only "real" brother he's got and...he feels bad for him. I would go so far as to say that he took pity on him as far back as Pandemonium. So he can't say "okay I tried to save you, I can wash my hands of this." He legitimately wants Kuja to be happy and have a shot at living his own life. So now he recognizes Kuja as a brother, but he doesn't really love him the way he loves Blank, Cinna, and Marcus. But he could, someday.

They haven't exactly talked a lot, but going on the thread they did have Kuja's okay with him. It's the sort of okay that's vague ambivalence shading into 'yeal okay I like him' but there are definitely worse places to be on Kuja's list.

Any leftover mistletoe-related awkwardness aside, Kuja likes Laguna. He's easy to talk to, and interesting enough to be worth the time to talk to.
