Sun, Moon and Stars.
“A youth known for his mysterious features, He can be heartless, acting with inhumane and brutal nonchalance.”
Work With A Smile!
Within the Council, Malik was a member of the Life Creation Team: he was responsible for researching the leyline structure of Filgaia in order to revive the planet's life force. Filgaia had been beautiful, with lush forests and wide lakes and several oceans. The Yggdrasil Project was supposed to have revived it all, but the opposite happened, and the explosion turned the planet into nothing but desert and seas of sand. On that day, he had used the wisdom of Hyades to restore his form and condition it beyond the normal limits of a human.
The planet rejected him and two colleagues, but they clung to the will to live.
Ten years later, in his thirties, Malik had retained his youthful appearance due to the augmentation. In all that time he'd undertaken radical experiments without any regard for ethics or the potential consequences of his research - all in the hope of bringing his mother back to life. He regarded the subjects of his experiments as "pets," though most were monstrous versions of animals seen in children’s tales.
Always smiling, Malik departed for Lunatic Garden, where he would absorb Celesdue’s life-force. This incident finally brought him in conflict with Virginia and her group. With Janus refusing to fight, Malik battled for himself and was defeated.
And Go That Extra Mile.
Prophet, grieving son, brilliant scientist and unsympathetic adversary, there isn't much you can say isn’t strange about Malik, may it be his untrustworthy speech or his unpredictable actions. He is the child of the Prophets as much as Leehalt is the boss. He doesn’t possess a foul temper and is rarely seen in a bad mood. He's warm, joyful, and the pleasant sort of person you want to be with. This is all a lie.
Internalised sadness and depression don't show others Malik's insane level of devotion towards his dead mother. He chose life technology as his field of research to find a way to resurrect her, after all; the people he meets are nowhere as close in importance. Malik is thus highly ambitious and will use you to get what he wants. Even the Prophets he has no qualms in exploiting, because what he wants is to be with the one person who loves him. The situation is bad enough that an Oedipus Complex is arguable, depending on interpretation. His devotion is not explained as a good reason for what he does, and weirds out everyone who finds out about it. Malik is thus an accomplished liar. He prefers privacy to socialising; he finds solace in his work, and the comfort of his mother when successful.
There are some admirable qualities. A quick learner, Malik possesses a genuine love of science, even if the purpose of that love is for something blasphemous. If something fails he will adapt to the change and carry on. He is knowledgeable when it comes to his work, as well as calm in the heat of the moment. To all appearances, he is a man who is warm, joyful, and a pleasure to spend time with - that’s if he tells people what he’s up to, because though he fights for survival with Leehalt and Melody, he’s prone to keeping secrets close, especially if they’re of a personal nature.
Any other positive attributes are drowned out by strange body movements, erratic emotions, and his overall shifty demeanour because hey, nobody's really that happy. His dark secret belies borderline psychotic tendencies; insult his mother or his feelings for her and watch the mask burn with rage. That isn’t a good idea because Malik is a disease-wielding scientist who prays on the minds of his opponents. Not one with too many scruples, he has no problem in calling on terrifying monsters to kill people, but also playing with them psychologically. He hates unreliability and rude behaviour, calling it boorish. He also knows he’s too fragile to engage in fighting, which he knows he stands a chance of losing. Instead he relies on underlings, and monsters he calls ‘pets’, but will fight if it cannot be helped.
That's My Motto.
Malik specialises in the fields of biotechnology and life creation, which is why he is able to create his mother clones. His knowledge of biotech enables him to develop and cultivate all manners of non-lethal and fatal viral and non-viral diseases, and to infect people when used in conjunction with technology such as nanomachines. These diseases confuse people - or one - and cause them to attack anybody one minute and behave randomly the next. There is another strain that can cause forgetfulness, depression and terrible illness in just one person.
Two of his attacks are magical in nature: Eliminate Scanner [non-elemental magic damage to one target] and the more powerful Annihilator [non-elemental magic damage to one target]. He can summon monsterous creatures that seem a mockery of characters found in classic children's tales, and some canon examples are the
Rooster, Cat, Donkey and Dog of the Musicians of Bremen, and Humpty and Dumpty. The second is teleportation. The Prophets are shown to have this ability: I've explained it as their ownership of an acquirable item called a Teleport Orb, which teleports your party to any visited town or train station. However I don't plan to use the orb as it seems wrong to have it work in an alien world.
From self-augmentation, his body resonates with a hyper frequency that causes all physical-based attacks to miss, be they blade, arms or anything of that nature. Till he's slowed, anyway. But that doesn't leave him defenseless - just extremely vulnerable.
Facts?
Character Name: Malik Benedict.
Character Series: Wild Arms 3.
Character Age: Between his late twenties and early thirties. Youthful, he appears no younger than twenty-four and never seems to age. Virginia's father disappeared when she was young after an explosion that ruined the efforts of the Council of Seven, leaving her to be raised by her aunt and uncle for her teenage years. Malik was a Council member. I've used that to guess the timing - he's pretty much said to have remained young in game, thank you Gallows.
