So from what I gather, you're a space traveler?

Well, I have traveled in the past. I didn't think I was traveling recently, but the only way I'd be this disoriented besides coming up from anesthesia is if I tunneled.

It's natural to be disoriented, but I don't think 'tunneling' is the cause. Everyone here was transported from different worlds and times against our wills. You'll probably have some adjusting to do, I don't think many people here come from places so advanced as your home, as your earlier conversations have obviously demonstrated.

[There's a looooooong pause.]

You realize how unbelievable that sounds?

Yes, I am. But it's the truth, and keeping it in mind will help you make sense of a lot of things here.

Do you know what planet we're on? It's too quiet for Tellus. Is it one of the extrasolar colonies?

You could ask one of the crew, but I doubt you'd get a clear answer. If it is a planet, it's one of nothing but water. No apparently life, either, just this boat, sailing on indefinitely.

Is the gravity always this high?

Yes. Is it unnatural for you? If you contact the mechanic, he might be able to arrange something for you.

I'm from Titan, it's about seven times what I'm used to. Won't kill me, I have all the grav-tolerance genofixing and I've lived on Tellus, but it's really uncomfortable.

How long would it take you to grow accustomed to it?

Without meds? A few weeks until I stop feeling like a landing pad, a few months until I can do a full day's work without getting exhausted. I'll never be an athlete in this gravity, though.

They should have something for you somewhere. And if they don't, at least the symptoms don't last too long.

By the way, I haven't introduced myself yet. Hajime Komaba, pleased to meet you.

Oh, thank you. Should I just put the request into this strange helpmate that was on the table?

What form of your name should I use to address you? I am Lika Huygens-3 Katrin-Kaius, but only the "Lika" part is my personal name.

Yes, that should do it.

Just 'Hajime' is fine. Most people's names around here follow the given name - surname convention.

Pleased to meet you, Hajime.

We don't use surnames, but my people are a weird bunch.
