...What's "Easter?" I had my helpmate review all the comm logs, and I understand that some people were very happy about it and it has something to do with small animals ugh but nobody actually explained what it was. My helpmate just says it's a "major Christian holiday," and what it has to say about Christianity makes no sense ( Read more... )

'S a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus.

Yes. Right. What do the rabbits have to do with it?

It's part of the non-religious version of the holiday. To make it fun for the children, they're told a story that a giant 'Easter Bunny' comes around on Easter and hides eggs and candy if they're good. Sorta like Santa Clause.

this is the major we're talking about. it's probably not too late for mimmi, though. yousoundblue April 16 2009, 19:40:37 UTC
But. Why would you even think to have a giant rabbit...who lays eggs? What has that got to do with a demigod coming back from the dead?

And what's a Santa Claus?

Hey, this is children we're talking about here. They'll believe anything if you give them candy and games... The rabbit doesn't lay eggs. It just brings them in baskets. From all I know, it has absolutely nothing to do with the holiday. Christians seem to find anything to make their holidays non-religious in some way.

Santa Claus is part of the Christmas tradition. He comes down peoples chimneys and leaves gifts under a tree and eats cookies.

[What.]

...Are there any Christian holidays that aren't nonsensical?

I'm pretty sure. I'm not the greatest religious-man in the world, so I don't really know many besides the big ones. Besides, I'm Catholic.

"Catholic" means "universal." How can you be an adjective?

thenotmagician April 16 2009, 20:01:59 UTC
...It means what?

yousoundblue April 16 2009, 20:03:51 UTC
Universal. All-encompassing.

...Maybe there's a problem with the mechanic's language machine..

Language machine?

...I'm Roman Catholic. Does that make any difference?

Yes, he has a machine that can teach you a language almost instantly. It's a really sophisticated neural write; better than my people can do.

So you're from the Mediterranean?

...I'm so confused.

[He's just not even going to ask]

No no. Roman Catholic is the name of the religion that branches off from Christianity.

Reply

yousoundblue April 16 2009, 20:17:15 UTC
Oh.

"Branches off?" So you have different holidays?

Reply

thenotmagician April 16 2009, 20:18:43 UTC
No, not really. I don't really see any difference between the two religions, but apparently they're different.

[He’ll never be a priest]

I still don't understand the rabbits.

But...if Roman Catholic is a "branch" of Christianity, it's a subset of Christianity. It can't be a different religion.
