Final Thoughts on my Sci Fi Movie (Coming Soon!)

What I learned about leadership is this: You have to be willing to do all the work yourself, but you have to trust others to do it all themselves. Only a leader who achieves this goal can allow their crew full bloom, for a good reason. Each person needs to be given full liberty with no liability. If full liberty is given with too much liability, they could fail to do their part and the whole would crumble. If no liberty is given with no liability, the crew would feel like they were slaves, completing someone else’s vision. I don’t claim to be the creative force behind this film at all, I was the organizational force more than anything else. I created the safety net that allowed these creative people to run free without liability. Dick’s work was the inspiration, but each person was given a role that they chose, and were allowed to run free with it, and if there is a single merit in the video we produce, it is thanks to their own creative visions. Since I was so excited and invested in the project, I comforted the people who failed and gave them other ways to help. I never assumed anything would be done right, but I explained to each director the truth; This scene will be as good as you make it. Since each person was responsible for the creativity of their own role, they were motivated to take pride in their contribution, and the “assigned work” felt more like free play.
I am both terrified and thrilled to see the final cut. It’s so near, and yet like most the crew, I haven’t seen the scenes edited together, or even a single scene cut. The last step I must confess I have no backup plan for, and I pray that Nick cuts this together well. This is my proudest moment, because the plane I built has left my reach.
