i know that i shouldn't let moronic people on facebook piss me off, but damn do i hate those overly religious people that won't practice what they fucking preach. there's a lovely discussion happening on facebook. i only commented to simply explain why some people say "happy holidays" rather than "merry christmas", but nooooooo some jackass had to take it further. fuck him, seriously, just fuck him.

JoycelynI am sick and tired of every year when CHRISTMAS comes around, there are people who want to take CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS. It might offend someone. Well how about all of the CHRISTIANS? What about offending us because you are taking our CHRIST out of CHRISTMAS!?!? CHRIST IS CHRISTMAS!!! If you aren't celebrating CHRIST then why are you celebrating? CHRISTMAS is about the birth of our SAVIOR! CHRISTMAS is one of a few holidays left that celebrate my CHRIST! Leave my holiday alone!!! And tell everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holidays!

    • K Stacy Not everyone celebrates Christmas and those people should be respected as well. That's why many people say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas. There's nothing wrong with Happy Holidays - it gives respect to ALL religions and their celebrations as well.

    • Rebecca So many people has forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. It is not how many presents you got. It is celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior. Some people may disagree with me, but if you don't agree with me tough turkey.

    • Carol I agree Katy. I know it's hard for some Christians to accept, but Christianity isn't the only religion in this country (one of the USA's reasons for being established was religious freedom), and non-Christians hardly complain (until recent years) about the centuries of being told merry Christmas when they are Jewish, Buddist, Muslim or one of many other religions out there. Each person should express whatever greeting they are comfortable with. I'm not taking a swipe at anyone, so please don't think I am. I was raised Catholic. Almost everyone I know is a Christian. This time of year always brings up this discussion, and it really is an individual's choice as to how to express your holiday greeting to others. Please don't be hating on me for having an opinion that you may not share.

    • K Stacy Exactly. I can't assume that everyone is Christian, so when I give someone (that I don't know) a holiday greeting - I say Happy Holidays as a means to respect their personal religion and whatever holiday they celebrate, whether it be Hanukkah or something else. No one is trying to take Christ of Christmas, but Christmas isn't the only holiday celebrated around the same time of year.

    • Joycelyn Carol and Katy you are both right. So please forgive me.

    • Bruce ‎@Carol - Jocelyn isn't "hating" on anyone. She is expressing her frustration at having Christianity's second most holy day subverted by secular society. Anger and hate often travel together, but they are not synonymous. I would also guess that she, like I and other Christians, are tired of being treated as if our traditions and beliefs are fair game for marginalization (even ridicule) by non-believers while at the same time being told that we must be tolerant and accepting of every other belief system.

    • K Stacy Why should other people tolerate and accept your belief system when you so obviously won't tolerate or accept theirs? Isn't part of being Christian treating others how you want to be treated? You want respect, give it - period

Bruce ‎@ Katy. Excuse me, but do you know me? I am tolerant of the beliefs of others. What have I said that implies otherwise? I merely spoke of what I and others see as the marginalization of Christianity. No negative comments about others.

K Stacy Yes, what you said implies otherwise. "by non-believers while at the same time being told that we must be tolerant and accepting of every other belief system."

That implies that you don't WANT to be tolerate of others, yet you expect them to be tolerant of you.

K Stacy And the fact that you're "tired" of it.

this is why religion is such a touchy subject. people think that their beliefs are the RIGHT beliefs and aren't open or accepting whatsoever of what other people choose to believe. fucking douchebag.
