So, I went to New York City on Thursday with Emily and her parents to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. And, let me tell you, if you like Disney, you will fall in love with this show.
Emily and I found out back in October that we'd be going January 4th, and it was hard to think of much else over the course of the last three months. Who knows? Maybe I love musicals too much. In any case, I was under the impression the whole time that we'd be eating dinner at a nice restaurant then sitting away from her parents somewhere in the back of the New Amsterdam Theatre (echem, the theatre where Julie Andrews premiered My Fair Lady...how ironic). I was just grateful that I was seeing this brand-new show, even if we were in the back.
So, we walked into the absolutely stunning theatre where I was handed my ticket. Emily's parents left (according to plan), and Emily simply said, "Hey, come with me." Before we took two steps forward she stopped in the middle of the crowded hall to tell me that she couldn't wait any longer, and that the "surprise" she had been waiting to tell me about for 3 months was that yes, we were sitting with her parents...but, not in the back...we were sitting way the hell up front and center. WHAT?!?!?!
I wish there were better words to describe the near ecstacy I felt. I don't have the opportunity to go to many shows, so having a chance to see 1) a brand-new, fresh show on Broadway 2) one based on Disney's imagination and 3) to have amazing seats is more than I could have hoped for.
Damn, this has been a good Winter Break.
