I went to the State Fair with Jacob on Friday. It was pretty ok. We saw the alligator wrestler, a milk cow competition and
a grilled-cheese-sandwich eating contest
The rides were pretty ok, but there was a new mega-vendor running the whole show called "Conklin Entertainment".
These guys are like the Walmart of the carny world. They run the games, the rides, the food vendors, etc. They run the whole thing, and they have a computerized ticketing system that is PURE HELL. There wasn't a single local vendor anywhere on the midway. All the local vendors were consigned to the exhibit buildings and the area around the livestock barns. It's sad to see another piece of Americana drop by the wayside of crass commercialism.
