Hello ___________!
I understand you are incredibly busy, but I was hoping to pick your brain about graduate school. I know I need to go back to school, because, in my soul, I belong in academia, but I am unsure about what steps to take, or even what direction would be best.
By that, I mean I have to reconcile
A) what type of education will give me an edge in this job market, and
B) finding a career that will satisfy me.
I believe that if I get my masters in Arts Administration, I will be able to satisfy my need for regularity and schedule, while still maintaining a relationship with creativity and exploration, for I am not self-motivated enough to be a pure creative being.
I discovered a list of Arts Admin masters programs, of which there are not as many as I had thought, and started looking at what their programs emphasized. Most were pretty straight-forward with two years, an internship, and a thesis. Some stressed the management of non-profit organizations, and some seemed like off shoots from MFA degrees.
Ultimately, none of these programs are in geographical locations I favor, but perhaps Carnegie Mellon might be right? No thesis, instead a SYSTEMS SYNTHESIS project, making the issues real?
Im understanding that I need to take a drastic step in my life, take a huge leap, and just dive into an abyss. I'm getting scared, but excited none the less. I truly take your opinion to heart, because I am so in awe of what you have accomplished in your short life so far, and although I am much different than you, I hope some of your assertiveness, authority, and even vocabulary rub off on me. Let me know your thoughts, and also, as an afterthought, what types of steps might be needed to begin a career in freelance art writing? Thats probably not my thing, but you got the idea caught in my head a couple months ago.
I'm so glad I get to see you every now and again at openings, talk to you soon,
Stephanie
