Kyo was sleeping nearby... until, of course, Lelouch slammed a piece down, making enough noise to make her start upright. She rubbed her eyes.

"Lelouch? Is something wrong?"

He looked over. He had no idea Kyo was there, or if he did he had forgotten fairly quickly that she had accompanied him there. He let go of the Black King piece gently before turning to face her.

"N-no, nothing."

Kyo nodded. She hadn't really slept much, recently, so she was really tired. She decided to accompany Lelouch, because he seemed stressed... But rather than being comforting, she had fallen asleep instead.

"Oh... If you're sure..."

She was already falling asleep again.

"You shouldn't stay up so late, Kyo. You're going to end up sleeping all day if you do."

Though he was hardly one to talk. Lelouch only had three hours of sleep a day, six if he could pull off looking like he had a headache in class. He turned back to the chessboard and started to rearrange the pieces.

"Kyo knows..." Kyo shook her head a bit, to try and wake herself up. "Kyo just has had trouble sleeping recently..."

At night, Kyo would lie awake in her bed, noting something felt wrong. She couldn't tell what, and it bothered her.

He picked up the Black Bishop and looked at it for a moment, twirling it between his fingers. There was something wrong with how things were lately. At first he thought they were fine, it was just him, but Rolo was acting strange as well... then there was that Kansaiben speaking girl. 'She might have been on a high horse, but no one is that ignorant and gets away with it here...'

"Kyo." He said suddenly. His voice was deeper and not one that he used often. "How did we meet?"

That tone... She knew that tone was serious. What was he thinking about? It was hard for her to tell.

"We were classmates in elementary school... You were really nice then, so we became friends."

He stood up as he idly knocked the pieces back over. He was done with this annoying pathetic game for now. Nothing made sense. Lelouch turned and sat down next to her under the tree. After a moment he turned and put his head in her lap. At first he thought it was awkward, but then he remembered that it was something he did often.

Kyo smiled, and put her hands on Lelouch's head as he laid his head down. She knew something was wrong, but the best way to help would probably be to smile so Lelouch would feel better. If she was unhappy, Lelouch would be too, after all.

He covered his face with his arms for a moment. His mind was such a jumbled mess of things he thought was right but they felt wrong, and things he thought were wrong but felt right. If he wasn't insane already he was surely going to become it.

"I don't know what's wrong with me." He mumbled.

"You're probably just tired... Rest a bit." Kyo urged.

"No." He said sternly. "The more I sleep the more time I waste. I don't find the answers I'm looking for in my dreams - if I even dream at all."

He paused and raised his arms. His eyes went to her wings. Not many people had them, but no one questioned it... though he remembered teasing her about them with Suzaku when they were younger.

"How did you get those wings?"

Her wings? This wasn't the first time he'd asked about those, but it had been a long time... She wondered just what he was thinking about.

"Kyo was born with them... You know that, Lelouch."

To be honest, she wasn't sure why she had wings. She was born with them, she knew that much, but... she never really knew why. Why were they there? Why her? She didn't think about it often, but when she did, she never could come to an answer.

"Does that mean your mother or father had wings as well? Or is it a recessive gene, like blue and green eyes? I have never met another person with wings. You are the only one. Yet Rolo and Nunnally and I all have purple eyes." He sighed and covered his face up.

"There's something missing." He grumbled angrily into his arms.

Kyo looked down. "Mom and dad... Neither of them have wings. Grandpa and Grandma don't either..." She knew no one else in her family, as far as anyone knew, had wings. It was just her.

"... Missing?"

"About me." He continued. "There's something I did but I can't remember it - but it's important. Just as important and unique to me like your wings are to you."

He sighed. Lelouch took another moment before moving his arms away from his face. This was different from remembering playing with Kyo as a child with Suzaku, or remembering his mother dieing. It was like a missing fact in his own history book.
