When you want to talk to a rock star

Today's "On the Media" had a number of great segments. One that caught my attention was a rerun of Jancee Dunn's book discussion about how to successfully interview the most reluctant of celebrities. Hint: You can never go wrong appealing to their narcissism.

Other great segments included the timely rerun (given yesterday's Live Earth concerts) of the story on how cigarette companies were behind the most public efforts to debunk global warming, and the new story about the radio soap opera in Uganda that is being used to promote reconciliation post-genocide. This last one was particularly thought provoking in light of discussions on LJ that suggest that fan fiction has nothing to do with anything that goes on in the world offline.

And for fannish content: four vids and a fic.

Nor Worth a Winchester by gostlcards - Teen - The perspective on Sam and Dean in this S2 coda intrigued me. “Those boys aren't safe without the other, and I don't just mean for themselves."

The Heist by starrylizard - A fun ride of an AU where Sam and Dean are robbers not hunters and on the lam. Love the 50s caper theme.

Freak by wistful_fever - Bit of an AU with a vengeful Evil!Dean and Sam/Jess. I’m not sure it works completely, perhaps because the material seems limited to early S1 but it’s an interesting approach to the feelings Dean must have had about being left behind.

Breathe by mkitty3 - Although this is mostly a S1 vid this could certainly have been Dean’s theme song for S2. I particularly loved the way it invested Sam with being home.

Stuck in the Middle With You by wolfpup2000 - File this under “Just because it was cute,” I enjoyed seeing a lighter look at SPN. The vidder takes the bemused weariness of the song and makes the whole thing kind of whimsical. An entertaining catalog of the many expressions of Sam and Dean.
