1) Quite an interesting article overall, but
pulling out this quote:
"On the second day on The Nevers, surrounded by still-blank whiteboards where the narrative DNA of the show had yet to be sequenced, two of us admitted shyly that we used to write Buffy fan fiction. Whedon looked at Jane Espenson, who wrote for Buffy and so many other shows we watched and who all of us were still too intimidated to talk to. “So did we,” she said. “We called it season 6.”"
2) Saw Shazam yesterday. Not much to say about it other than it turned out to be a fun watch (and given its box office success, I figure we'll be getting another one).
Given I didn't know about the Marvel family the ending was a nice surprise. Also, Darla was so adorable and irresistible.
3) So, Sony is taking over the
live action Spiderman again (and apparently Tom Holland is locked into two more films). That is not great news, since among other things it removes him from the MCU.
What's even more depressing to contemplate was this line: "Spider-Man: Far From Home this week surpassed the James Bond film Skyfall to become the all time highest grossing film for Sony Pictures."
First of all, I didn't think Spidey 2 was all that good. OTOH, I thought Skyfall was definitely the best Bond film. Yet after having such a winner with it apparently the message Sony got was not "Let's have more of that." And while I know that fandom latched onto Venom in a big way, the general critical consensus is that it was awful. So I am not filled with optimism that Sony has gotten the message that it needs a good script, despite its animated Spiderverse film being excellent.
4) Maybe this is only news to me given that I am not in sport fandoms, but it appears that this is mandatory for NFL teams to use and many other sports franchises do as well:
Fan Conduct Class.
I came across this after hearing about
controversy in MLS fandom. I found it interesting when perusing the testimonials how many mentioned alcohol. Of course the idea of just not selling booze at games to create a better experience for everyone doesn't get considered.
5) runpunkrun offered the most
wonderfully funny set of icons and it made me wish I could see that more often, the "caption your own" idea or just the same icon with a lot of different text options. (I'd be willing to bet anyone reading would want more than one of those).
Part of this is that I have only a few icon spaces left despite several review and replacements over the last few years. And I find that in the end the icons I use most often are those which are useful reaction ones. Yet those are probably the minority of icons made.
This is not to say that I don't have plenty love for the many wonderful character and simply pretty icons. I have more stuff saved than I'll be able to use (even if we got 1000 icon spaces). But I could probably use all of them eventually.
One way for me to get around this is through animated icons so I made several compilation icons from runpunkrun's set (which they also had me share through their post).
