Which celebrities do it right?

1) I'm not on Facebook or most social media accounts, but I do have a read-only Twitter account and I follow (goes to check) 9 accounts, 7 of which are celebrity accounts. I went to update it today to add Joss' new account and started pondering what I really want out of a celebrity twitter. ( Read more... )

I don't mind political tweets, so I like Ruffalo. There are some celebs like Chris Evans who don't usually do lots of politics but do during this election year; similar with comedians like Patton Oswalt, whose tweets I enjoy. George Takei I like on twitter too. Even if you don't care about Supernatural fandom one bit, Misha Collins' twitter is good. Caity Lotz is good too. Ryan Reynolds, Stephen Fry, Don Cheadle, Greg Grunberg, Willie Garson, Constance Wu, Felicia Day, Patrick Stewart, and definitely all the fake news crew like Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Jessica Williams, Larry Wilmore, etc.

Is Margaret Atwood a celebrity? I like her twitter too.

Sure, I'd say she's one.

Speaking of the fake news crew, Colbert's and Sam Bee's accounts were two of the ones I was thinking of when I was talking about them being largely promotional and impersonal. They tend to promote the show and do jokes but from my look at Sam's and my experience with Stephen's, they're not really personal. I was thinking of unsubscribing from Colbert's because I already watch the show.

I don't mind political content either, which is why I continue to follow Ruffalo's tumblr. It's a little preaching to the choir but he doesn't post so often that I find it repetitive.

I was also thinking that it's interesting sometimes to find out the people that particular celebrities are following. There's a lot of fandoms crossing over, I've noticed!

// Given the protests that have gone on at college campuses (and we're a college town) about ethnically themed parties you wouldn't think a store's buyer would be stupid enough to include something like this for Halloween. But clearly I would be wrong ( ... )

Yeah, it was an unpleasant surprise to run across that.

Sounds like for you the best approach for celebrity accounts is mostly work-things-I've-been-up-to with personal touches?

Yes and DAMN, I wish I knew how to be so concise. Thank you for distilling my ramble. (That is a totally sincere "thank you" btw, I know text doesn't convey meaning.)

I'm sure what I like in "celebrity" media platforms would be more diverse if I followed more people and had a greater sense of what's out there? I lurk on a lot of twitter accounts that do critiques of culture, racism and sexism, fandom etc but none of them are by "celebrities".

Haha, it's always easier for someone else to do, I've noticed ( ... )
