1) We have, presumably, the final mourning dove nest of the season. It's been just over two weeks since the last babies left and we were thinking that might actually be it. But nope, there is a nest and a bird sitting in it today.
Yesterday we got a ton of rain through the evening and night. The grass has turned green again -- remarkable how some plants can bounce back, though the grass is used to dying off and coming back every year.
Speaking of plant changes, one interesting thing that happened a few weeks ago was when we got our last rain, the temperature dropped steeply at night and cooled off for almost a whole week.
We have a hibiscus that's been blooming like crazy, and its flowers were a peachy yellow. But the day after the temperature drop, the flowers looked like more of a papaya/guava shade. I don't know if the difference is all that clear below, but it was really noticeable those first days.
Speaking of hibiscus plants, Mike picked up a new one with some gigantic blooms, as you can see here compared to his hand.
We're surprised that the hummingbirds that come by every day haven't been madly attracted to it when they're open but they seem to be largely ignoring it. Rather they are busy chasing one another away from the feeder when they're not being chased off by the wasps.
2) I'm not sure what made me raise an eyebrow more -- the fact that
all these Simpsons stamps didn't sell, or the fact that this was a story in Pakistan Today.
