We will soon be a nation of singletons. "The stats are arresting. In this country, approximately 31 million people live alone, and one-person households make up 28 percent of the total, tying with childless couples as the most common residential type - “more common,’’ Klinenberg pointed out, “than the nuclear family, the multigenerational family, and the roommate or group home.’’

A lot of multi-resident homes are college dorms and apartments, and many of those childless couple homes will become single homes in the next decade as partners die off. I suppose these statistics explain why it's so difficult to find even 3 bedroom apartments, though I would certainly expect to see a lot more smaller homes being built.

Winchester Radio did a good interview with Guy Bee, director for the last episode and also S1's Asylum. Various tidbits include his certainty that there will be a S7 of the show (not big news as this already seemed likely, but certainly adds to the belief that there's long-term planning going on), and that he asked to be brought back because he enjoyed working on the show and had special admiration for Jerry Wanek and Serge Ladoceur in terms of their attention to detail on the series. Also Kevin (missed his last name and could not figure out how to rewind) is apparently the go-to guy in the production for continuity when it comes to what the series has done. Some details about the episode:

1) Mark Sheppard asked for his name not to appear in the credits so that his appearance would be a surprise to the viewers. Guy said he had worked with Mark on Middleman so they already knew one another.

2) The episode started filming right after the Vancouver con and Misha's son was going to be due any time. He said he had met Jim on Harper's Island even though he didn't appear in Guy's episode, but he had been following his tweets because of Misha's marathon.

3) He also added that JP was quite enjoying being robo-Sam because he didn't have to become emotional in the same way he would have had Sam been souled, and that this was much easier.

4) Most interesting was the news that the ending lines were flip-flopped between Sam and Dean. Rather than Sam asking if Dean was with him, it had originally been Dean to Sam.

5) Nicholas Lea (Krycek from the X-Files) read for the part of the Alpha vamp in Vancouver, but they ended up casting Rick, who had to sit tied up in the chair for as long as 6 hours because it was so complicated to get him in and out of it. He thinks that Nicholas Lea may get a part in the show sometime soon.

Guy also talked about how he went to a sports bar for the kickoff of the NFL season with JA and JP, and that as they were watching some guy came over in a hoodie, leaning over Jared and Jensen's shoulders making funny noises. It turned out to be Tom Welling, who Bee remembered from the shoot on Asylum. He said that later Misha showed up with Colin Ferguson from Eureka, and Guy joked that if a bomb hit the restaurant three shows would have been over. He had seen the guys several times over the years when he'd be working in Vancouver, and Jensen joked that if he ever got another episode he could never live up to his own legend because fans thought so much of the Asylum episode. Guy mentioned that he had been shooting Harper's Island the weekend that JA and JP did the soap box derby and he met up with them later at a bar.
