SuperKristen to the rescue!

I just came home for lunch, and noticed a small animal near the first apartment. I thought it was a mouse at first, but it was a baby squirrel, laying very still and surrounded by ants. On closer inspection, I saw that it was still breathing. Dave was on the phone with me, and suggested using a newspaper or something to move it near the bushes. Of course, no newspaper, but I had a plastic plate that I wouldn't mind throwing away.

Since it was still breathing, I thought I'd try turning it over, seeing if it would be able to walk. Mind you, I'm talking calmly and quietly to it the whole time, telling him that it'll be alright, that he was doing good, etc. The poor thing was making such whimpering noises, it broke my heart. Then I hear an angry chittering above me. I'm guessing it's Mama Squirrel. So I backed off, and she just kept going up and down the tree. I said, "Are you gonna get down here and save your baby, or what?!" LOL (Thankfully there's no one home right now)

I backed off even further and Mama came down. At first, I wasn't sure if she was trying to help him or hurt him, so I stepped a bit closer, and then Mama got him into her mouth and skittered up the tree and onto the roof. Oh, thank goodness.

It was so tiny, it had about a two-inch long tail, it could've easily fit in the palm of my hand. (And I've small hands, too)

So I'm scarfing down some food now, but I'm just so very happy that it's Mama came down to save it. I guess it fell from the nest? No clue, but he's safe, so... whew.
