Sad Day...

So yesterday when I woke up I attempted to start my computer...only to get a blank screen with a flashing icon of a folder with a question mark in it.

I did some research and tried all the command and option key combination possibillities I could find...but realized that none of them were working.

So, I then tried to reinstall Mac OS X on my computer hoping I would be able to reinstall the system without having to erase everything on my computer...but when there was no hard drive found on which to install said operating system I got a little worried...

So after talking to Sarah at Mac Support I finally accepted the fact that somehow my hard drive was fried, and I've lost everything.

Including:

All my music...days and days of music collected from all over the place...much of which can be replaced...some some of which I edited for myself...or recorded myself...and that can't be replaced.

All of my pictures. Over 4000 pictures from the past 3 years. Every photo I have chronicling most of my time at UCA, all of my time with Sarajevo, my friends and family, random events captured in video and pictures that may have only been important to me and so they can't just be pulled off of facebook or myspace, or simply be replaced. I think this is what kills me most of all...I keep thinking of that line from Avenue Q, "I wish I could go back to college" where Nicky says: "I wish I had taken more pictures..." I just keep thinking about all the Sarajevo pictures I've lost. Pictures of great moments in relationships that are over, but still produce great memories, pictures of things like snow days and crazy lazy snow days. Videos of Guard camps and routines, the rookies learning funky monkey, the BOA SS Kids performing their final routines, leg wrestling at the Mowers, New Years videos with Jessi and Louise, and everything else of the like. UGH...

On top of that I've lost all the documents from the past several years...like...
My Internship I portfolio.
My Classroom Management First Day Script.
Every Paper I've written in the last 2 years.
My Calendar with dates for the next 14 months.
All of the files for the UCA Color Guard Website which now will have to be completely redone from scratch.
My copy of Finale (since the CD was broken in an unfortunate event).
My downloaded (but paid for) music editing programs, image editing programs and other random pieces of software that I'll have to find...and pay for again.

And I'm sure there are many many other things that I just can't remember at the moment because I'm just trying to stay calm.

The Moral of the story is...back up your files...because even Mac's aren't entirely infallible. They will however...pay for everything if you keep up your insurance (THANK GOD)

Sad Day.
