When Brendon woke up, he had no idea where he was. All he knew was he couldn’t see, couldn’t feel, and couldn’t hear. If one has ever been in a situation where all of their senses have been taken away, then you might know what kind of terror Brendon was going through right now. But if you haven’t, you have no idea.

He left you. He left you unprotected, a voice whispered in the back of his head. That voice was not his.

Who are you? What are you talking about? Who left me? Brendon tried to reach up to feel his head but, alas, he couldn’t feel anything. It felt like he was floating in space. Like there was some force holding him from all directions, but not touching him.

So many questions, some of which I don’t know that answer to. The voice chuckled. It was a grim sound. It sounded like people screaming.

Who are you? Brendon wanted to scream, to cry.

The voice was silent.

When Ryan woke up, it felt like he was wrapped in chains. Cold metal digging into his skin on all sides, every part of his body restricted from moving. As he scrambled up and away from his bed he stood leaning on a dresser, panting. There, on his wall, there was something. A glimmer of magic.

mag-ic

-noun

the art of producing a desired effect or result through the use of incantation or various other techniques that presumably assure human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature.

Magic is not a wave of your hand and suddenly you have a kitten. No, no, no. And there isn’t this whole race that’s born with magic. No, no. Get that thought out of your head. Some people are just born with it. Just like someone born with a photographic memory. So just because 2 ‘magical’ people have a kid does not by any chance mean that they’re kid is going to be magical. People have tried. It doesn’t work. More chances than not it’s two unmagical people have a magical kid.

Magic is like an extension of your life force. Some might call it a soul. It has boundaries; it’s only as strong as you are. It’s not like Harry Potter where you utter a few words and wave a little stick just the right way and something happens.
