FLORIDDDDA!

So it's been an interesting week.

We left Thursday after class and drove about six hours to somewhere in North Carolina, right outside of Charlotte. There we stayed in a Days Inn after eating a typical staple-of-the-south Waffle House. We woke up the next morning, Friday, and continued the drive to Gainesville. I met Zak's oldest sister there, and his nephew and brother-in-law. We left and headed towards Spazz's (Orlando), where we slept for the concert the next morning.

We drove to Miami starting at about 8am. We got stuck in traffic a bit but otherwise, the drive was fine. We got to the Global Gathering 2006 (http://www.globalgatheringfestival.com/) at a little afternoon and were torn a new one over parking--- $20! I may have lived in Chicago, but I forgot about big city parking rates! We thought they would let us leave and re-enter since it was a noon-midnight concert, so we left the sunscreen and everything in the car. When we got inside, of course, we didn't get to go back out, so we both sun burned and food was ridiculously expensive. A bottle of water, which you had to drink from a cup, was $5!

Anyways, Zak bought a gas mask for our "fun." We saw a bunch of shops, rode a few amusement rides (c'mon, how many people can say they've listened to Killswitch Engage live while riding on a ferris wheel?) and saw a bunch of great bands play:

Lacuna Coil and Killswitch Engage were good,

Alkaline Trio was whiney (they kept saying, "Just one or two more songs and we'll be off the stage, we promise!"),

Avenged Sevenfold was amazing, even though I previously hated them-- I now have a HUGE respect for them. They have an amazing stage presence!,

Bullet for my Valentine was decent,

Coheed and Cambria sucked (which horribly disappointed me because I love Coheed),

Flyleaf was all right,

Nine Inch Nails was good, of course, but no where near as good as they were during their With Teeth tour in Cincy a couple weeks ago,

Rise Against was better than I expected them to be,

Shinedown was effing amazing. They dedicated a song to Dimebag Darryl (sp?) of Pantera and everything and they have awesome stage presence.,

and finally, Rob Zombie was FUCKING AMAZING! His set (and they each played for around an hour or a little more) made it more than worth the money. It's an amazing show. Seriously-- go see it.

Sunday we just kind of went to the mall. Monday we went to Daytona Beach. I don't recommend it if you want to go to a real beach. You can park on the beach, so you have to basically cross a sand street to get to the ocean and it's packed. If you like tailgating, though, have at it. Tuesday we went to Playa Linda, which was amazing. It's beautiful. It's in a state park or something and there aren't too many people there, so we just brought our beer and other stuff out on the beach and chilled for a good five hours. I sunbathed while Spazz and Zak, our two giant children, played in the sand. The ocean didn't feel too bad either. And I'm getting a decent tan for me.

Today we went to a mall in Orlando that was huge and had a Tiffanys, a Burberry's, a Louis Vuitton, a Coach, and a whole bunch of other huge labels all in a row. Zak and I are both a little sunburnt but have been having a blast.

Tomorrow I think we are going to try to go to a beach along the coast. We are also talking about potentially renting a summer house down here on the beach to party all summer. So fun!!

Anyways, just thought I'd update you.

Kara
