today was very windy in murayama (my little mountain town). i didn't think much of it. until dinner.

in murayama there are many fisherman. fisherman work on the water. when it's windy, and you're on the water, you are completely at the mercy of the storm.

two people died.

around 50% of the families have someone that is a fisherman. i feel like at least 30% of my kids have fisherman for fathers. and the fisherman don't have insurance and probably don't have much money.

tomorrow when i go to school, it could be the case that two kids lost their parents, or grandparents.

and the fact of the matter is that two kids did lose their folks, even if i don't know them.

...

in portland, wind used to mean kites and paper blowing everywhere. wind in murayama means people fearing for their parents lives.
