More nights out then...
Thursday was Rock City, which was predicatably full of new and returning students. Although as ever the influx of new people drags the old people out of the woodwork. Talked about stuff with kam_p, got introduced to a shitload of new people and saw the obligatory odd randoms (this week was Dave and Carla).
Friday was far too busy at work, and I considered just spending the whole night in bed, especially seeing as jonthebloody had buggered off to Stoke to watch manniqueen_ dance. About eight o'clock though, I thought 'screw this', and caught the bus to Nottingham Uni for the tail end of their 'campus 14' bar crawl. They managed to make a hell of a success out of it, taking in ten of the possible fourteen bars (I think, I only joined the last part). perfectglitch and pornstarbarbie seem to have had a very successful week, and I can only hope the Trent one is as good. Caught up with Big Rich, Tai, and surprisingly enough kingamj out with the Nottingham Ninjas. Walked the long walk home with Tom, Chris and wordsfromrob and rediscovered the simple pleasures of pounding the city streets at unreasonable times of the night talking about utter crap.
Saturday I caught up on the sleep I think I've been missing for weeks. Stayed in bed all damn day. It was ace. Got up in the evening to walk over to Tom's and return his CDs (finally), and saw some of the Fresher's Fayre footage from Friday. Moved on to Tony's, where Tony's 'Big Dick' was handed round (tasted of mango, banana, orange, vodka, ginger and too much cinnamon). It's funny how when you've been drinking, the idea of 'Big Dick' NEVER STOPS BEING FUNNY. Pissed about with Allan and some of the Trent metallers, met Helen and Sarah from Lincoln, stole Tom's beer, discovered 'Pez' (White Lightning and Passion Fruit Fanta) is surprisingly palatable, gayed it up with Chris Hayes, watched thedarkproject be all northern with his cider and tried to get vampiric_monkey to show off her new piercings. Moved on again to Speak Easy to enjoy the winnings of last week's quiz, harassed Pervy Tom at the bar, met with Frankie and 'my friend fancies you', got pseudo-headhunted by an IT recruiter guy, bumped into Aislinn and a supremely drunk Caz. Finally on to City, where the music was of little note, but there were a metric ton of people out, Johnno was down from Manchester, stickyvu made a welcome appearance, Em is proving herself to be the most hardcore fresher, jonthebloody is working the dogtags and White Rabbit Andy was out avec fancy DV cam so we discussed some projects for the next few months. Left a little early after notgothdammit kicked me squar in the nuts and made me feel a little nauseous (I'll get you for that, goth).
Today we intended to restart Fight Club, but both the Toms and Jon were otherwise occupied, so it's been moved back to next week. Instead I risked the Goose Fair with Tabby, Alex, Rho and Simon, watchedw Tabby eat questionable food, laughed at everything with Simon, watched people fail to navigate a 'glass maze', discussed why the rides were so shit, made ourselves feel better that we weren't part of such a travelling freak show and went home again. This afternoon, despite failing to go to the gym (I took static_n to join Virgin this week, hopefully he'll inspire me to get off my ass and go more often myself, the constant round of going out and dancing is finally making an impact on my ever increasing stomach, but not fast enough!) I have been mostly productive, cleaning things, sorting things, writing things etc. I've got a seemingly never ending 'to do' list at the moment, which is not good for the king of procrastinators. I'm meant to be heading out to see greeba but doubt i'll make it in time. The Speak Easy / Junktion 7 is on tonight though, people.
Before I go, does anyone know an *easy* way of grabbing an audio stream from a DVD? I've Googled, but all the guides I've found seem to be on how to do it *properly*, using external kit and whathaveyou, I've only got the laptop to work with. Surely it shouldn't be a major task to just record the output of an internal soundcard? Any advice appreciated.
