Lock eyes with a thousand people at the same time

Well I think this weekend proves that even when I try to have a quiet weekend I fail. Friday was the NTU Alternative Formal. Having got suited up, spent an hour or so 'assisting' lost_in_music_ set up the PA up. People started arriving, I started DJing. The original idea was for me to just cue up a playlist and leave it running, but I didn't really want to leave the laptop to it's own devices, so spent most of the night by it. While Mia (one of the organisers) considered me a martyr for these actions, I had a very pleasant night. People bought me food, and drink, and everyone was coming over to have their photos done anyway. Pervy Tom took great delight in awarding me 'Receeding Hairline of the Year', despite the crowd being against him. The buffet didn't have quite enough food, and it was too hot. There was free champagne though, and the music went off without a hitch. I ended up playing a lot of unusual stuff, probably not as party-oriented as it was meant to be, but bollocks to it, people seemed to enjoy themselves.

Most of the requests were made by a drunken and demanding tinker_goth, whose comments I will draw a veil over so as not to embarass her further :p So yes, a successful night in all. I think everyone had a good time, I know I did.

Saturday I rose late, and in defiance of the changeable weather, went to the Arb to meet vampiric_monkey and pai_kitagowa, where they were found languishing with both squeeface and nummie_devi. There was also a surprise appearance from fuseblues, who I hadn't seen in a fair while, and who still hasn't grown ;) The Arb was made different by the addition of a fairly large group doing some very impressive Capoira, which was a pleasure to watch. I couldn't help thinking what they'd do if someone tried *fighting* them though.

With the day wearing on, Claire decided that we should go to Asda to stock up for her cheese party. An hour and £25 later we had the EU cheese mountain in our possesion, including some funky 'probiotic' cheese, which Claire only bought in the hope that it would have a soul. I then rushed home, showered, changed, a headed to Rock City for the Legion of Doom / Sons of Merrick gig. Turned out I needn't have rushed, as the bands were late (should have guessed really), so chatted with ironlord, Stormrider Chris and wordsfromrob. And whitewave. Obviously. Sons of Merrick were pretty sweet, with a drummer out of Jimmy Eat World who used PLENTY of cowbell, and a bassist who looked like Meatloaf's younger cousin. Legion were good, but the sound let them down. And ribble looks lost without girls to pose at ;)

After the gig it was back to vampiric_monkey's for her cheese party. Spent a very pleasant evening gorging on fondue, cheese on sticks, fried breaded camembert (coronary on a plate), watching the musical episode of 'Buffy' and the might 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'. I think I gained half a stone.

Sunday dawned like a whole load of not much. Wandered down to Asda again to stock up on food with the limited funds I had remaining, and back via Claire's to steal the remainder of her cheese, then went home, cooked, ate, slept. It was still too hot, and I couldn't be arsed to be productive in the slightest.

Monday was different, however. After much putting-off, I delved into Gallery2, and fanagled it to the extent where I'm happy to unleash it on an unsuspecting public. So, expect the camera out more often, and the results to be uploaded here. Paint's still wet, but y'all get the idea. notgothdammit, I may well have stolen some of your photos. Monday evening I played the Good Samaritan, trekking firstly to soldatengrab to give him hardware, set up his internet connection, and exchange music. Then to notgothdammit's, to clean out her PC and give her porn. These altruistic acts did not go unrewarded, as I stole Xbox games from Myko (Wolfenstein, Midway Arcade Classics and LEISURE SUIT LARRY), and Kristy's going to take me to Hooters next week.

So now I'm looking towards this weekend. My oldest friend (I've known him since I was three) is in the country for a rare weekend (he's usually off in Canada/USA/France, he's just got back from Scandanavia), so I REALLY want to see him. So firstly it's a toss up between going back to Norwich and getting him (and his girl) up to Notts. There's the Magenta pub crawl on Friday night, but nothing happening on Saturday, maybe we could do tourist-y stuff, I don't know. Dragging me in other directions is kimera_hydra's request to go to London for the first Satan's Circus show, and a house party in Sheffield on the Saturday night with a few people I haven't seen in a while, and a chance to catch up with yet another old friend. Still, I keep telling myself, too much is better than nothing.

Oh, and is it considered bad form to miss my brother-in-law-to-be's stag night?

rocksoc, formal
